Joint Session With President Poroshenko Is the Best Way to Learn About the Situation in Ukraine - US Congress

Participation of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in a joint session of the Congress would allow American legislators to define the most urgent needs of Ukraine on the background of aggression against it by the Russian Federation.

45 members of the American Congress wrote this in an open letter to Speaker John Boehner, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinfrom.

"Ukraine is on the verge of a turning point of history and the United States is an important partner in the Ukrainian struggle against Russian aggression. The United States has been supporting the Ukrainian people in their striving for democracy since the beginning of the current crisis in Ukraine," the congressmen said in the letter.

The United States and NATO partners' support of Ukraine facing a real threat from Russia "is more important than ever," the authors of the document say.

"President of Ukraine Poroshenko participation in the joint session shall demonstrate support from the Congress and at the same time inform the Congress on best ways we can maintain relationships between the United States and Ukraine," the members of the Congress say.

As reported earlier, Speaker of the House of Representatives John Boehner invited President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on Wednesday to deliver a speech at a joint session of Congress, which will take place on September 18. "Message from President Poroshenko to the United States Congress will be further evidence of the United States strong commitment to the problems of the Ukrainians. We would be honored to welcome Poroshenko at the Capitol," the speaker said in a statement.
