Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov says the National Guard must be ready to bring the situation in the Russian-occupied territories under control.

As reported by Censor.NET citing the Interior Ministry’s website, Avakov said at the National Guard’s military council on Dec. 14.

"Like other law enforcement agencies, the National Guard will always stay out of politics. Its task is to protect the rights and freedoms of citizens, ensure public order, and cope with illicit activities. It must also be ready to get grip on the situation in the temporarily occupied territories under the Action Plan for de-occupation," the minister said.

Avakov also stressed that the Interior Ministry’s top priority is successful development of all its bodies.
