Ukraine’s air defense downs Russian mercenaries’ drone - second one since truce in Donbas

Using drones in the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) zone flagrantly violates the Minsk agreements and recently reached cease-fire deal.

Censor.NET reports citing the statement by the ATO headquarters press service.

"The Ukrainian air defense units have shot down the second enemy drone since the New Year-Christmas truce came into force. The electronic warfare system tracked a hostile unmanned aerial vehicle - presumably Orlan 10 - around 9:23 p.m. on Jan. 10. The enemy drone collected intelligence on the Horlivka-Artemove-Kurdiumivka-Ocheretyne route. After the air defense radars identified the object as a UAV, it was destroyed by the Ukrainian air defense units at about 11:40 p.m.," the report reads.

"It is noteworthy that Ukrainian electronic warfare units recorded two more enemy drones carrying out aerial reconnaissance in the Donetsk and Prymorske directions last night which became yet another proof of blatant violations of the New Year-Christmas armistice and the Minsk agreements by the Russian-occupation troops," the headquarters stressed.

The agency also recalled that a Russian-produced Orlan 10 UAV was collecting intelligence on the outskirts of Zaitseve-Kodema-Semyhiria on Dec. 28, 2017. That drone was also tracked and shot down.
