Third Russian-made drone in latest truce downed by Ukrainian air defense units

Another evidence of Russian military hardware being used by the militants in the occupied Donbas was recorded on Jan. 14. An air defense unit shot down Orlan-10 unmanned aerial vehicle produced in the Russian Federation carrying out air reconnaissance in the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) zone. This is the third UAV of this type downed since the beginning of the armistice commenced on Dec. 23, 2017.

Censor.NET reports citing the statement by the ATO headquarters press center.

"Ukraine’s air defense units have once again demonstrated to the enemy that the Ukrainian skies are well protected. Each time the air defense units follow the same clear procedure: promptly identify and track the target and make a decision to destroy the enemy UAV at the right time. Orlan-10 plays important role in air reconnaissance and intelligence collecting. This unmanned aerial vehicle is equipped with electronic warfare system, thermal and conventional cameras. It is capable of creating 3D maps of terrain and even assist in running a battle," the agency said.

Two more Orlan-10 drones produced in Russia were reportedly shot down in the Donbas on Dec. 28, 2017 and Jan. 11, 2018.
