Probe into activist Sarmat’s murder: police have five suspects in custody, apprehend several more persons involved in crime

Law enforcers detained several more individuals involved in the murder of activist and Donbas war veteran Vitalii Oleshko in Berdiansk. Five suspects who were detained earlier are in custody.

As reported by Censor.NET referring to the press office of Police Directorate in charge of the Zaporizhia region, today, Sept. 20, First Deputy Chief of the National Police - Criminal Police Chief, Viacheslav Abroskin held a working meeting on the matter.

The meeting was attended by Zaporizhia region police Chief, Serhii Komissarov, members of the operations units and the investigative department involved in the investigation of the murder of Vitalii Oleshko.

The law enforcers discussed the pace of the investigation. According to them, five persons involved in the crime including a 38-year-old resident of the Donetsk region are in pre-trial custody.

"In addition, the police detained several other individuals charged with other grave and especially serious crimes, who are reasonably suspected of involvement in a high-profile murder. As I promised the wife of the deceased, the assassins’ paymasters and those who masterminded the murder will be identified, detained and brought to criminal responsibility," Abroskin said.

As reported, a member of the Donbas Battalion, Vitalii Oleshko, nom de guerre Sarmat, was gunned down by an unidentified person in Berdiansk on July 31.

On Aug. 1, the police officers apprehended four suspects riding a car in the city of Vasylivka, the Zaporizhia region. Another perpetrator was tracked and detained by the police in Berdiansk.
