Boryspil district court sentenced Ihor Kornilov to a five-year imprisonment after finding him guilty of causing bodily harm to the then journalist and now a member of the People’s Front parliamentary faction Tetiana Chornovol on Dec. 24, 2013 and subsequent denial of medical help to her.

As reported by a correspondent for Censor.NET from the courtroom, thus, the court acknowledged that Kornilov tried to get access to her car and shatterd the vehicle’s rear window as well as the fact that he was holding Chornovol while the other suspect was beating her.

The court changed the definition of the offense as required by the defense.

The prosecutors earlier identified Kornilov’s actions as attempted murder. Given that Kornilov did not repent for the crime committed, refused to cooperate with the investigation, as well as the fact that he had outstanding convictions (he has got a total of five convictions), the court considered the attack on Chornovol to be a repeated relapse into crime, thus imposing on him the heaviest sentence provided by the article – a five-year imprisonment. However, taking into account the so-called "Savchenko law", Kornilov started serving this sentence immediately after being placed to pre-trial detention center in July 2017.

As reported, Chornovol was severely beaten by several persons on a highway near Boryspil, Kyiv’s larger area, in December 2013.
