Ukraine may abandon imported gas in five years' time, Hroisman says

Ukraine may no longer need imported gas as soon as in the next five years provided country's gas deposits become available for producers.

As reported by Censor.NET citing Ukrinform, Prime Minister Volodymyr Hroisman said it at Svoboda Slova talk show.

"We have many opportunities to become energy independent. We are starting to unwind a very complex and closed system - access to the Ukrainian subsoil resources. I believe that in the next 5 years this will give us the opportunity not to buy gas for currency, but to produce in Ukraine", - said Hroisman.

March 6, 2019, 10 special permits for the use of subsoil with deposits of oil and gas will be put up for electronic auction via ProZorro Sales.

Hosheonadra (Ukraine's State Service of Geology and Subsoil) plans to hold at least 10 such auctions in 2019.
