Yatseniuk calls on US to engage in negotiations on Donbas in 'Kyiv format'

Prime Minister Arsenii Yatseniuk calls for U.S. involvement in negotiations on a settlement of the situation in the east of Ukraine.

He stated speaking on Wednesday at the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

"I see the European Union, the USA, Ukraine, sitting at a table with a single position ... and exerting pressure on Russia, forcing it to act according to the law," Yatseniuk noted, proposing to call this "Kyiv" format. He also called on the EU and the U.S. to preserve the unity and not allow Russia to split it by all means.

"Ukraine is fighting terrorists commanded by Moscow, and thus protects Europe and the European Union," Yatseniuk reminded. He called the confrontation between Ukraine and Russia the "war of light and darkness, democracy and authoritarianism, the past and the future."

The prime minister also cited the following figures: 1.1 million people in Ukraine have lost everything, Ukraine lost 20% of the economy. "The EU, the G-7, Ukraine should de-escalate the situation, stop Putin and restore [the rule of] law in Europe," Yatseniuk said.

He also stressed that Ukraine fully complies with the Minsk agreement.
