We must quickly achieve delegitimization of Russia’s presence in UN Security Council - Kuleba

The UN Security Council is undergoing processes aimed at expelling Russia from this international body. Achieving this will take a long time, but there is a simpler goal that can be achieved more quickly.

According to Censor.NЕТ, this is stated by RBC-Ukraine with reference to a comment made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba on the air of the "United News" telethon.

"We started our journey last year. This path will not be easy, I warn everyone right away, because we are talking about rebooting a global institution. But we have a clear plan, to which we involve not only diplomats from different countries, but also opinion leaders and experts and scientists," the minister emphasized.

Kuleba said the first goal that Ukraine will achieve quickly is to delegitimize Russia's presence in the UN Security Council.

"In other words, everyone will realize that they are facing fraudsters who have swindled their way into this position. This result will be achieved fairly quickly, but the exclusion itself will take some time and a number of factors need to coincide. But for Russia, even achieving the first goal - delegitimization - will be a terrible international blow," Kuleba said.

At the same time, he named three obstacles that will need to be overcome to achieve the goals.

"First, in 1991, the Russian Federation pulled off a scam with the tacit consent of the then members of the Security Council, and today these countries have to go through a painful process of recognizing their wrong decisions. Secondly, there are procedural difficulties in changing the UN organization. And thirdly, of course, the truth is that it is very difficult for many countries to imagine the UN Security Council without Russia, but they will get used to this idea. Yes, this is a long way, strategic work, no need to look for instant solutions, but we will do this work, and the result will be there," Kuleba stated.
