Ukrainians will continue to fight for Bakhmut, there is slow war of attrition in Donbas, - Milly

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley, believes that the Armed Forces of Ukraine will continue to hold Bakhmut, deterring the attacks of the Russian invaders.
This is reported by Censor.NET with reference to Interfax-Ukraine.
Asked by reporters at NATO headquarters whether the Russians have the ability to attack in Donbas, Milly said: "They are attacking right now. Progress is very slow, it is a war of attrition. Lots of casualties. Leadership and morale are not great. But they have a number (of people). As you know, President Putin has called up several hundred thousand (people) and these people have arrived on the battlefield. They have numbers, whether they succeed in battle or not remains to be seen. But the battles continue, it is a slow war of attrition ".
At the same time, the American general stated that allies and partners continue to support the Ukrainians, and that "the Ukrainians can or cannot do, we will see in the coming weeks and months."
Commenting on the current situation around Bakhmut, Milly noted: "Most of the movement is back and forth, mostly around Bakhmut. The Ukrainians are holding, they are fighting on the defensive, and the Russians, mainly Wagner's group, are attacking. I would describe it as a battle of attrition with very large casualties, especially on the Russian side. There are no fancy maneuvers, it's direct attacks, waves of attacks, a lot of artillery with extremely high casualties in that particular area. How long it will last is quite difficult to say."
At the same time, Milly did not rule out that this will continue for a long time, as he does not think that "the Ukrainians will fall." "They will continue to fight. We pay special attention to this battle and do everything to ensure that the Ukrainians have all the opportunities to defend themselves," the general added.
