Donor funds will be enough for Ukraine until end of this year - US Treasury

The funds provided by the EU, the US, and other international donors are sufficient to meet Ukraine’s needs until the end of the year.

This was stated by U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen in her address to the participants of the spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, reports Censor.NЕТ with reference to Voice of America.

According to IMF estimates, if Russia's war against Ukraine ends by mid-2024, Ukraine's external financing needs will amount to $115 billion. However, if the war continues until the end of 2025, the need will increase to $140 billion, IMF official Gavin Gray said before the meeting.

If the war continues, Yellen said, the United States will work with partners to provide what Ukraine needs. "I am convinced that there is strong bipartisan support. This also applies to our partners," the head of the Ministry of Finance emphasized.

Donors will coordinate their long-term assistance to Ukraine through a separate platform, Yellen said. "In addition to this, we have provided funds for immediate reconstruction, for the priority needs of Ukraine, such as the energy grid," she added. The World Bank estimates the cost of post-war reconstruction in Ukraine at $411 billion.

Yellen assured: "We will support Ukraine for as long as it takes." The official welcomed the approval of the IMF program, which was "an important signal of broad international commitment to support Ukraine."
