The ophthalmologist from Mariupol, who handed over wounded Ukrainian defenders to the Russians, will be tried in absentia.
This is reported by Censor.NET with reference to the press service of the Prosecutor's Office of Donetsk region.
"The pre-trial investigation established that in March 2022, during the occupation of the city, Russian troops seized the buildings of the municipal non-commercial enterprise "Regional Intensive Care Hospital of Mariupol", where at that time at least 7 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were stationed. In order to hide this fact from the occupiers , the staff of the medical facility changed the Ukrainian defenders into civilian clothes," the message reads.
At the same time, not all hospital workers were loyal to their country.
"The ophthalmologist of the department of microsurgery of the eye, supporting the actions of the aggressor country, voluntarily gave the Russian military information about the whereabouts of seriously wounded and sick servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation during a medical visit. Due to the actions of the accused, the occupiers took the specified citizens into captivity, where they were subjected to physical and moral abuse", the prosecutor's office added.
The prosecutors of the Donetsk regional prosecutor's office, as part of a special pre-trial investigation, sent an indictment to the court against a citizen of Ukraine for committing high treason (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
