USA expects China to influence Russia and force it to withdraw its troops from Ukraine, - US Ambassador to China Burns
The US expects China to be tougher in its relations with Russia. He must force Moscow to withdraw its troops from Ukraine.
This was announced by the US ambassador to China, Nicholas Burns, Censor.NET reports with reference to CNN.
He stated that the US wants to see China push Russia to withdraw its troops from Ukraine so that it can restore its full sovereignty.
"It would be helpful if China pushed Russia to stop bombing Ukrainian schools, Ukrainian hospitals, and Ukrainian residential buildings. Just in the last month or two, we have witnessed huge human casualties as a result of these air and drone attacks on the Ukrainian civilian population," Burns added.
Burns calls the conversation between Xi and Zelensky a good start, however, he adds, it is currently unclear whether it will lead to any action.
"We would like China to be much tougher in its advice to the Russians. We would like to see actions to end the war as soon as possible. Of course, on terms that the Ukrainian government can accept," he said.
Burns emphasized that the US is very closely monitoring the potential supply of arms from China to Russia.
"We have not seen evidence that the Chinese are doing this, but we continue to watch it," he said.
