The Ukrainian military continues to advance on the flanks near Bakhmut. However, it is not easy to liberate the territories, and the occupiers are trying to regain lost positions.

This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Hanna Malyar, on the air of the telethon, Censor.NET informs with reference to RBC-Ukraine.

"Currently, we divide this situation: the city and the suburbs. In the suburbs, we continue active actions - this is north and south, yesterday I literally gave information on how far we have advanced there. On the one hand, it seems a small distance. We were talking about 20 square kilometers. And yesterday we named the data on both flanks: one about 500 m, and the other about 1 km," said Maliar.

She noted that fierce fighting continues in the direction of Bakhmut, and it is not easy for the Ukrainian military to advance, as the occupiers have concentrated a large number of their forces.

"You need to understand the cost of this advance. It is extremely difficult to carry out combat tasks there because the enemy has concentrated a huge amount of its efforts. And, in fact, every meter there is like 10 km of advance in other conditions," the deputy minister emphasized.

According to her, the occupying forces are trying to return the lost kilometers. However, Ukrainian defenders repel enemy attacks. In Bakhmut itself, fighting continues in the southwestern part.

"As for Bakhmut itself. Battles are currently taking place in the southwestern part. But we control this part as of now and the enemy is unable to carry out his plans. That is, the attacks continue and our attacks are repulsed," Maliar emphasized.

As reported, a third separate assault brigade made a breakthrough on the outskirts of Bakhmut, creating a springboard for a counteroffensive.
