Ukraine insists on convening a meeting of the UN Security Council and intends to appeal to the International Criminal Court after the explosion of the Kakhovka HPP,
As Censor.NET informs, referring to Interfax-Ukraine, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said this at a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday.
"We talked with the EU, with NATO, with the OSCE, and we are also convening the Security Council at the UN. And we will also appeal to representatives of the International Criminal Court," he said.
"We really want a reaction from countries that pay special attention to environmental issues. From Asia, Latin America," Zelensky added.
"In our opinion, this is a crime. The Prosecutor General's Office has already registered it. Today's classification is ecocide," he said.
According to him, the information about the mining of the Kakhovka HPP "came from our intelligence, we then shared this information with our partners."
"The Ministry of Internal Affairs was preparing for the relevant things, and the prime minister understood how to act. It is clear to us that 35 to 38 settlements will be flooded," the president said.
According to him, "we understand that there will be big problems, they already exist, and that is why we were preparing for the supply of drinking water. There will be big problems with drinking water even where there is no flooding. In the whole region, in the Dnipropetrovsk region, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions ".
"The consequences of the tragedy will be understood about a week after the water recedes," he said.
As Censor.NET reported, on the morning of 6 June, it became known that the Russian occupiers had blown up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. According to the Kherson Regional State Administration, the water will reach a critical level in 5 hours after the explosion. Evacuations have begun in the region. Nova Kakhovka is already being flooded. The Korabel district of Kherson is without power, and the gas supply will be cut off in a few hours. National Police and SES units have been put on alert in the Kherson region.
President Volodymyr Zelensky initiated an emergency meeting of the National Security and Defence Council due to the bombing.
According to Energoatom, the racist bombing of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station could have negative consequences for ZNPP, but the situation is under control.
According to Ukrhydroenergo, Kakhovka HPP was completely destroyed as a result of an explosion in the engine room from the inside. The plant is beyond repair. The Prosecutor General's Office opened a criminal investigation into the explosion of the Kakhovka HPP under the article on ecocide.
