No cholera was detected in the southern regions of Ukraine, rotavirus was recorded in the Odesa region.

This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Health - Chief State Sanitary Doctor Ihor Kuzin, Censor.NET reports with reference to Ukrinform.

"I would like to draw attention to the Odesa region. We have ensured the expansion of monitoring points for drinking water. ... We do not find cholera in sea and river water. But in the Odesa region, we have been finding rotavirus for several days in a row - it is a common intestinal infection, a viral infection, and when swimming, using reservoirs, in case of swallowing water, a person can get an acute intestinal infection," Kuzin said.

According to him, at this time, about 40 water monitoring points have been deployed throughout the Dnipro river, and water samples are taken daily to detect the causative agent of cholera.

"As of today, all the results are negative, and starting from June 1, every person with a severe course of an acute intestinal infection or disorders of the gastrointestinal tract will be additionally examined for cholera. For example, in the Odesa region last week we had (with an acute intestinal infection, - ed.) 181 people. 172 people were examined, only those who had a mild course were missed," Kuzin said.

The official emphasized that the cholera situation is currently calm, predictable, and manageable, and epidemiologists are working in the flooded areas. A reserve of beds in infectious disease departments has been prepared in the Kherson, Odesa, and Mykolaiv regions.
