Chinese President Xi Jinping said the United States and China have made progress on a number of issues during talks with US diplomat Anthony Blinken.

This is stated in the CGTN report about the meeting of the Chinese leader with the head of American diplomacy, Censor.NET informs with reference to Ukrinform.

At the beginning of the talks, Xi noted that Beijing's top diplomat Wang Yi and China's Foreign Minister Qin Gang called their talks with Secretary of State Blinken frank and in-depth, and welcomed the outcome.

"The two sides agreed to adhere to the joint agreements that President Biden and I reached in Bali. Both sides also made progress and agreed on some specific issues. This is very good," Xi said.

He emphasized that interaction between states should always be based on mutual respect and sincerity.

"I hope that through this visit, Mr. Secretary, you will make a more positive contribution to the stabilization of China-US relations," Xi added, addressing Blinken.

The meeting, which lasted a little more than half an hour, took place in the Great Hall of the People's Assembly, which is used by the leadership of the People's Republic of China to welcome foreign heads of state, which is considered a positive signal of the Chinese side's willingness to de-escalate relations with the United States.

The meeting could also pave the way for a summit between Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden later this year and further normalize the rivalry between the world's two largest economies.
