There are weapons that Bulgaria is unlikely to be able to transfer to Ukraine, - Minister of Defense Tyagarev
Bulgarian Defense Minister Todor Tagarev said that his country is ready to discuss any weapons with Ukraine, but there are certain weapons that it will not be able to transfer.
He said this in an interview with Glavcom, Censor.NET reports.
Answering the question whether there is any taboo on the issue of providing military aid to Ukraine, he answered: "In principle, we can talk about everything, but there are types of weapons that, given several reasons, we are unlikely to be able to give.
First of all, because of our need for them and the impossibility of replacing them. And, secondly, due to the already formed negative public sentiments regarding the transfer of specific combat platforms."
Tagarev noted that he does not yet have information about the readiness of other partners to enter into agreements with Bulgaria to provide it with heavy equipment to replace the one transferred to Ukraine.
"Recently, I had a meeting with the ambassador of Germany, because this country is the main donor of arms for the so-called Ringtausch, i.e. tripartite agreements. Germany provided Leopard tanks and Marder IFVs, which formed the basis of these agreements. The ambassador said he had no information at this time but promised to check whether his country still has the ability to provide replacement equipment.
In principle, there are other compensation mechanisms, in particular, financial. So, for example, Slovakia, having transferred its MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine, received a large discount from the USA on combat helicopters and anti-tank missiles for them. And it was a pretty good discount because it included 2/3 of the value of the deal," the minister noted.
