NATO summit to discuss steps Ukraine needs to take for membership - Sullivan

Before joining NATO, Ukraine has to do a lot to meet Alliance’s standards, and this list of requirements will be discussed at summit in Vilnius.
This was stated at a briefing by US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, informs Censor.NЕТ referring to LigaBusinessInform.
"The United States supports NATO's open door policy and Washington has no doubt that a membership agreement between NATO and Ukraine will be reached. However, this does not exclude the fact that Ukraine has to take many more steps to meet NATO standards," Sullivan said.
In response to a clarifying question from a journalist, Sullivan said that Ukraine will definitely not become a member of the Alliance at the NATO summit in Vilnius.
"However, the summit will discuss what steps should be taken to ensure that Ukraine becomes a full member of NATO," he said.
The summit of NATO leaders will be held in Vilnius on July 11-12.
Earlier today, White House spokesman John Kirby said in an interview that there is no "clear roadmap" for Ukraine's accession to NATO and that the United States considers it most important to "focus on the fighting that is going on right now."
