Explosion on Crimean Bridge will hit prestige of Kremlin and may create problems for Russian army, - Financial Times

The occupying "authorities" of Crimea stopped traffic on the bridge across the Kerch Strait, which connects the occupied peninsula with Russia. This happened on Monday morning after reports of an explosion that caused part of the bridge to collapse and two people died.

As reported by Censor.NET with reference to ZN.ua, the Financial Times writes about it.

"If it is confirmed that this was the second Ukrainian attack on the Crimean bridge, opened with great fanfare by Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2018, it will deal another humiliating blow to the Kremlin's prestige and, perhaps, to its ability to supply the troops that hold the southern regions of Ukraine," the publication writes.

The FT recalls that the bridge had already been damaged by an attack in October, forcing the Russian authorities to temporarily close it. The renovation lasted for several months and in the end, the structure was completely restored.

The bridge plays the role of an important connecting link between Russia and the occupied Ukrainian territories and is used to transport troops, tanks, and other military cargo for the Kremlin's occupation forces in southern Ukraine. The only other supply route is through the so-called "land corridor" that Moscow created by invading and occupying parts of the Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions. Last September, Putin announced the "annexation" of these regions.

"But this path is narrow and associated with difficulties since the Ukrainian brigades focused their attention on trying to cut this land corridor during their counteroffensive," the authors of the material note.
