The court found the former first deputy head of the Special Operations Center "A" of the SSU, Valerii Shaitanov, guilty of treason, a completed attempt to commit a terrorist act, as well as illegal handling of firearms, ammunition, or explosives. He was sentenced to 12 years behind bars with confiscation of property.

This is reported by Censor.NET with reference to the Office of the Prosecutor General.

"Prosecutors proved in court that the Major General of the SSU collected information that was a state secret and passed it on to representatives of the Russian Federation. Also, on the instructions of the special services of the aggressor country, the convict searched for people among former SSU servicemen to commit a terrorist attack," the report says.

The Prosecutor General's Office noted that the attacker's goal was to kill Major Ichkeria of the Armed Forces of the Chechen Republic, who, since February 2015, had headed the Dzhokhar Dudayev International Peacekeeping Battalion during the war in eastern Ukraine. Law enforcement officers prevented a murder planned by the special services of the Russian Federation.

"Criminal proceedings against an employee of the Department of Counterintelligence Operations of the FSS, who recruited the convict, are currently being heard in absentia in court," the Prosecutor General's Office added.
