Ukraine has become largest buyer of German weapons, with purchases in 2023 reaching €3.3bn - Spiegel
In the first nine months of 2023, Ukraine purchased more German-made weapons than in the whole of last year. The total value of German arms imports reached €3.3 billion.

According to the German economy ministry, the federal government approved the export of €3.3 billion worth of military equipment to Ukraine in the first three quarters of this year, making Kyiv the largest buyer of German weapons.
"The volume of arms exports clearly reflects Germany's unwavering support for Ukraine as it confronts Russia's criminal aggression," said Sven Giegold, State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy.
It is noted that in 2022, exports of German weapons amounted to 8.35 billion euros, while in the first three quarters of this year, they already amounted to 8.76 billion euros.
This is the second highest figure in German history. Only in 2021 was it higher - 9.35 billion euros. For comparison, during the 16 years of Chancellor Angela Merkel's rule, the six billion mark was exceeded only five times.
