US State Department saw aggressive anti-corruption measures in Ukraine and called for their continuation

The US State Department believes that Ukraine has taken aggressive steps to fight corruption over the past few weeks and urges our country to continue to do so.

This is stated in a statement by US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller during a briefing on 2 October, Censor.NET reports with reference to UP.

Miller said that the issue of corruption was discussed with President Zelenskyy during the visit of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to Kyiv.

In addition, members of the US Congress and EU members are demanding anti-corruption measures in Ukraine: "This is being portrayed as something that Ukraine has to do in order to gain the support of its Western allies and ultimately to realize its European aspirations, to become a member of the EU, and this is certainly true."

But above all, Miller believes, it is important for Ukraine itself, for its ability to build a sustainable economy.

"They will always be neighbours with Russia. They need an economy that can support a security apparatus to deter Russian aggression in the future. And they will not be able to do that if corruption is widespread in various sectors of the economy," Miller added.
