The US House of Representatives elected Republican Mike Johnson as Speaker.

This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to Radio Liberty.

51-year-old Johnson will become "the least experienced speaker of the House in decades," Reuters points out. He is a relative newcomer to politics. He opposed abortion and supported LGBT restrictions.

The new speaker voted against additional aid to Ukraine. Also in May 2022, he insisted that assistance to Ukraine should not prevail over domestic issues of the United States.

Johnson is known for his active support of Trump's position during the impeachment hearings of the former president, writes "Voice of America". Trump also called on fellow Republicans to unite around Johnson.
