The decision will come into force in 30 days, which is the time allowed for filing an appeal, Censor.NET reports citing Suspilne.

Krasnoyartsev was convicted under Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code (Violation of the laws and customs of war). The punishment under this article is ten to fifteen years or life imprisonment. Such a punishment was requested by Kirill Puhachev, who demanded 15 years in prison for Krasnoyartsev.

The court also upheld a civil lawsuit filed by Svitlana Voiteshenko, the sister of Vitaliy Serhiyenko, who was killed by Krasnoyartsev, for two million hryvnias in moral damages.

As a reminder, the Russian pilot's plane was shot down in the sky on the outskirts of the city on 5 March 2022. After getting out after the crash, Krasnoyartsev shot and killed Vitaliy Serhiyenko, a resident of Chernihiv, with a pistol.

The Russian pilot is being tried in absentia. He was exchanged for five Ukrainian pilots in the spring of 2022. Chief of the Defence Intelligence Kyrylo Budanov said.
