Currently, officials from the United States and the European Union have begun "quietly discussing" with Ukraine the possibility of holding peace talks with Russia.

The NBC News writes about this with reference to unnamed current and former high-ranking American officials, Censor.NET informs.

The talks included very broad discussions of what Ukraine might have to give up to reach agreements, the officials said. According to the channel, some of the talks, which officials described as delicate, took place last month during a meeting of representatives of more than 50 countries that support Ukraine, including NATO members (the so-called Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine).

According to TV channel sources, these discussions are a reflection of the situation at the front and the political situation in Europe and the USA.

The discussions began amid concern among American and European officials that the war has reached a stalemate, as well as the possibility of continuing to provide aid to Ukraine.

Sources say the US government is concerned about how much less public attention the war in Ukraine has received since the conflict between Israel and Hamas began. Officials fear that such a change could make it more difficult for Ukraine to receive additional aid.

Officials also said Ukraine likely has until the end of the year or a little more before more urgent discussions on peace talks begin. American officials have shared their thoughts on such terms with European allies, the TV channel notes.

At the same time, as two American officials said, the Biden administration does not indicate that Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready for negotiations with Ukraine.

According to them, Putin still believes he can "wait out the West" or continue fighting until the US and its allies lose funding support for Ukraine, or until the struggle to supply Kyiv with arms and ammunition becomes too expensive.
