Death of Zaluzhnyi’s assistant Chastiakov: prosecutor’s office will appeal court’s decision to refuse measure of restraint to Timchenko

The Special Prosecutor’s Office will appeal against the court’s decision to refuse to choose a measure of restraint for an officer from the office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleh Timchenko, who presented grenades to Zaluzhnyi’s assistant Hennadii Chastiakov.

Prosecutors of the Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Central Region are preparing an appeal against the ruling of the investigating judge to refuse to apply a measure of restraint to the Senior Assistant to the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Earlier, he was served a notice of suspicion of illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives (Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, on November 6, 2023, the suspect presented the Assistant to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with 6 universal grenades for his birthday. One of them exploded while inspecting the gifts. A major of the Armed Forces of Ukraine died on the spot.
The pre-trial investigation is carried out by the State Bureau of Investigation.
Earlier it was reported that Chatiakov died as a result of the detonation of an unknown explosive device.This information was confirmed by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi.
According to the National Police of Ukraine, the tragedy occurred in a residential complex in the Chaiky village in the Kyiv region. After receiving a report of the explosion, the police urgently arrived at the scene.
According to preliminary information, a 39-year-old serviceman was killed as a result of a grenade explosion. His 13-year-old son was seriously injured. The guy is under the supervision of doctors.
