Ukraine initiated the creation of an EU monitoring group at the border due to the blockade and plans to evacuate Ukrainian drivers.
This was announced by Deputy Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine Serhii Derkach, Censor.NET reports with reference to Ukrinform.
"We are initiating the creation of a monitoring group by the European Union at the border. We suggest that our European colleagues officially register the situation at the checkpoints. Whether dangerous goods are allowed through, how humanitarian aid crosses the border, and most importantly, what conditions our drivers have been living in for more than two weeks," Derkach wrote.
According to him, the Ukrainian side has already sent an official letter with such a proposal, and we are waiting for a response.
For its part, according to Derkach, Ukraine has started collecting data for the evacuation of Ukrainian drivers.
"We have already run out of time to agree on compromises. Now our drivers in sub-zero temperatures suffer from the actions of several people who blocked the border with the consent of local authorities. We have raised issues several times at the working and official levels regarding food, ambulance duty, fire trucks, proper sanitary conditions – all this is missing. Instead, we continue to see reports of approval of the continuation of the protest by local authorities," he said.
Therefore, according to the Deputy Minister, Ukraine will evacuate everyone who expresses such a desire. A special form for filling out about evacuation will be distributed among drivers and carriers.
Derkach also recalled that over the past three weeks, the issue of the blockade has been raised at all possible levels, there have been dozens of letters and meetings, Ukraine has proposed a number of compromises, the Polish government and the European Commission know them. "But it is possible to agree on something only when there is a desire to negotiate, and not just a desire to block the border," he added.
