Ukraine has recorded the first fact of changing the personal data of a Ukrainian child during illegal adoption by Russian citizens.

The Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Lubinets announced this on Telegram, Censor.NET reports.

Recently, it became known that the head of one of the Russian parties, Serhii Myronov, and his wife Inna Varlamova "adopted" a child taken from Ukraine. The media reported that 10-month-old Marharyta Prokopenko was in an orphanage in Kherson during the occupation of the city by the Russian army.

From there, she was taken to Russia, allegedly for "examinations and rehabilitation." After that, according to media reports, the girl's name and citizenship were changed.

"Yes, Marharyta became "Marina Mironova"! It is also known that a two-year-old boy, Illia Vashchenko, was probably taken away together with the girl. His fate is currently unknown," the ombudsman said.

Lubinets noted that the adoption of Ukrainian children in the Russian Federation is illegal.

According to international and national norms, in order for foreigners to adopt a Ukrainian child, it is necessary to notify Ukraine and obtain consent for adoption.

"However, Russia is trying to circumvent this and forcibly grant Russian citizenship to Ukrainian children. Which is also a crime! Let me remind you: the forced transfer of children from one ethnic group to another is genocide!" - Lubinets emphasized.

He stressed that at least this fact is already the basis for the next warrants.

"The international community must respond to the war crime of the Russians and help return the children abducted by Russia!" he added.
