Rheinmetall receives €142 million order from NATO partner country for artillery shells for Ukraine

German arms concern Rheinmetall has received an order from a NATO partner country to supply artillery shells to Ukraine. The order is worth around €142 million.

This was stated by the company, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

The order includes tens of thousands of 155 mm artillery shells. The customer is a NATO partner country that intends to support Ukraine in its defence struggle with effective long-term military assistance.

The shells will be produced by Rheinmetall Expal Munitions, the Group's recently acquired Spanish subsidiary. The ammunition will be delivered in 2025.

The production and delivery of about 40,000 pre-ordered shells for Ukraine is due in 2024, the statement said.

It is noted that the demand for artillery ammunition is currently very high, due not only to the needs of Ukraine but also to the need to replenish the largely empty ammunition depots of Germany and other NATO and EU countries.

In 2024, Rheinmetall plans to significantly increase its ammunition production capacity at its plants in Germany, Spain, South Africa, and Australia, ensuring the annual production of up to 700,000 artillery shells.
