Yatseniuk says detained amber should be sold at auction to recharge budget
Prime Minister Arsenii Yatseniuk says the large batch of smuggled amber detained in the Rivne region should be sold at an auction, with the raised funds to be directed to state budget.
He said this to reporters at a joint briefing with the Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrainski Novyny.
The seized amber was shown to journalists.
Avakov says 2.64 tons of amber have been seized; the minibus driver carrying it has been detained.
The investigation is underway.
"The future of the amber is being considered at the moment. Of course, it's within investigator's competence, but the law provides for taking a decision on selling this amber at auction and transferring the raised funds to state budget," Yatseniuk said.
He noted the value of the seized amber was about 60 million hryvnias (about $2.7 million).
