Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled 14 attacks in Avdiivka direction. Overall, 44 combat engagements took place over last day - General Staff
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine released operational information on the Russian invasion at 6 p.m. on January 4, 2024.
According to Censor.NET, this was reported on the official Facebook page of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"The six hundred and eightieth day of the large-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation against our country continues.
The enemy continues to ignore the laws and customs of war, uses terror tactics, conducts strikes, and shells both military and civilian targets. The enemy is actively using tactical aircraft and FPV quadcopters, conducting assault operations with the support of armored vehicles.
There were 44 combat engagements over the last day. In total, the enemy launched 6 missiles and 14 air strikes, fired 13 times from multiple launch rocket systems at the positions of our troops and populated areas. Unfortunately, there are dead and wounded among the civilian population as a result of Russian terrorist attacks. Private residential and apartment buildings, as well as other civilian infrastructure, were destroyed and damaged.
The operational situation in the east and south of Ukraine remains difficult.
The situation in the Volyn and Polissia directions remained unchanged. There were no signs of offensive groups forming. Certain units of the Belarusian Armed Forces are performing tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine.
In the Siverskyi and Slobozhanskyi directions, the enemy maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts sabotage and reconnaissance activities, shells settlements from the territory of the Russian Federation, and increases the density of minefields along the state border of Ukraine. About 15 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Stepok, Popivka, Kostiantynivka, Chuikivka in the Sumy region; Udy, Vovchansk, Mala Vovcha, Potykhonove in the Kharkiv region.
In the Kupiansk direction, defense forces repelled two enemy attacks near Synkivka and east of Petropavlivka in the Kharkiv region. About 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Synkivka, Tabaivka, Ivanivka, Berestove in Kharkiv region.
The enemy did not conduct offensive (assault) actions in the Lyman direction. It shelled more than 10 settlements with artillery and mortars, including Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region and Yampolivka, Verkhnokamianske, Spirne in the Donetsk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, the Defense Forces repelled three attacks near Bohdanivka, Klishchiivka and Andriivka in the Donetsk region, where the enemy tried to break through the defense of our troops. More than 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Hryhorivka, Bohdanivka, Klishchiivka and Andriivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Avdiivka direction, our defenders repelled 14 attacks in the areas of Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, Avdiivka and another 9 attacks near Pervomaiske and Nevelske in the Donetsk region, where the enemy unsuccessfully tried to improve the tactical situation. About 10 settlements came under enemy artillery and mortar fire, including Novobakhmutivka, Berdychi, Stepove, Avdiivka, Sieverne, Nevelske in the Donetsk region.
In the Marinka direction, the Defense Forces continue to hold back the occupants in the areas of Marinka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where the enemy, with the support of aviation, tried to break through the defense of our troops 7 times. The enemy also launched an air strike near Heorhiivka in the Donetsk region. Heorhiivka, Pobieda, Novomykhailivka and Paraskoviivka came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive (assault) actions. More than 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, Staromaiorske in the Donetsk region.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Defense Forces repelled 7 attacks near Robotyne and northwest of Verbove in the Zaporizhzhia region, where the enemy unsuccessfully tried to regain lost ground. More than 15 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Poltavka, Chervone, Charivne, Mala Tokmachka, Robotyne, and Kamianske in the Zaporizhzhia region.
In the area of responsibility of the Odesa Operational-Strategic Group (OSG) in the Kherson direction, Novovorontsovka, Beryslav, Tiahynka, Ivanivka, Novotiahynka, Kherson, Stanislav in Kherson region and Solonchaky and Ochakiv in Mykolaiv region were subjected to enemy artillery shelling. The enemy also conducted an air strike near Zmiivka in the Kherson region.
The invaders do not abandon their intention to knock our units out of their footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro. Thus, during the day, the enemy carried out 6 unsuccessful assault operations, but Ukrainian soldiers continue to hold their positions and inflict significant losses on the occupiers.
During the day, the aviation of the Defense Forces struck 10 areas of concentration of personnel and 2 enemy control points.
Missile troops destroyed an air defense system, 4 artillery units, an electronic warfare station and 3 enemy control points," the General Staff said.
