In Kyiv, Pritzker raises issue of appointing head of Accounting Chamber despite G7: It is important to have confidence in oversight provided by Ukrainian institutions

U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine’s Reconstruction Penny Pritzker discussed with Ukrainian authorities the appointment of the head of the Accounting Chamber in violation of G7 recommendations.

She said this during a visit to Ukraine, Censor.NET reports with reference to European Pravda.

"We talked (at official meetings) about the Accounting Chamber," the US Special Representative said.

As you know, on January 10, the Verkhovna Rada appointed Olha Pishchanska as the head of the Accounting Chamber without waiting for the completion of the reform of this body and despite numerous warnings from the United States and other G7 members, which allowed avoiding vetting of this candidate.

Penny Pritzker emphasized the importance of such inspections.

"We've talked to Ukrainian officials about the importance of not only passing laws, and not only appointing people to positions, but also ensuring that there is a sufficient vetting process, that there is a necessary 'screening' of candidates, so that Ukrainians and not only Ukrainians have confidence in the oversight that Ukrainian institutions are providing," she explained.

However, the US government representative did not specify Washington's expectations in this regard, emphasizing only that they "will not remain silent" in case of other appointments without verification.

Penny Pritzker, however, expressed a generally positive assessment of Ukraine's reforms.

"The purpose of the visit is to express admiration for the progress that Ukraine has made in terms of anti-corruption legislation before the start of negotiations with the EU," she said.
