Five EU countries demand to return duties on imports of Ukrainian grain
The agriculture ministers of Hungary, Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia ask the European Commission to reimpose import duties on Ukrainian grain due to "unfair competition."
This was stated by the Minister of Agriculture of Hungary Istvan Nagy, Censor.NET reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Hungary.
According to the minister, the absence of duties on Ukrainian agricultural products has caused significant damage to farmers in the eastern countries of the European Union, they are being pushed out of their traditional export markets
"That is why Brussels should take measures that will protect the markets of the Member States bordering Ukraine and at the same time enable them to utilize their export potential. One such option could be to impose tariffs on the most sensitive agricultural products," Nagy said.
He also added that Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary share a common position aimed at ensuring that Ukrainian agricultural exports do not have a negative impact on the European agricultural market.
"Therefore, Brussels must also ensure the consistent application of EU agricultural standards to all products offered to European consumers. We call on the European Commission to present a report on the compliance of Ukraine's production standards with the EU agricultural standards," the politician emphasized.
