According to Censor.NET, with reference to European Pravda, Orban said this during a press conference with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico on January 16 in Budapest.

Orban assured that he was not against helping Ukraine in principle, but stressed that "we must do it in a way that does not harm the EU budget."

"But to give away 50 billion euros from the EU budget four years in advance is a violation of the EU's sovereignty and national interests. We don't even know what will happen in a quarter of a year," he said.

The Hungarian prime minister insisted that any financial assistance to Ukraine should be separated from the EU budget and proportional to the economies of the member states.

"If Brussels agrees to this, then there will be assistance to Ukraine outside the budget. If not, I will sadly stop this process," Orban emphasized.
