The social network TikTok may be banned in Ukraine if it continues to fail to respond to cases of Russian propaganda. The state does not need to follow the example of other countries, as Ukraine already has experience in blocking social media.

This was stated by Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Freedom of Speech, on "Radio Liberty", Censor.NET reports.

"Ukraine is a sovereign state, it can do anything without looking back at its partners. We have the practice of blocking social networks, appeals from special services, NSDC meetings, presidential decrees, enactment, lawsuits, if they occur," the MP said.

"The Centre for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defence Council has exposed a whole network that is engaged in Russian propaganda on TikTok. I haven't heard any reaction from TikTok," Yurchyshyn said, adding that if the social network continues to fail to respond to such cases, the need to block it may arise.

For now, the authorities see no need to block TikTok.

"So far, as I understand it, the authorities do not feel the need to do so. And it's always better to try to negotiate first than to take the toughest measures right away," the MP said.

As for Telegram, the search for legislative regulation of this and other social networks is underway, Yurchyshyn concluded.
