In Ukraine, the state register of persons who have committed corruption or corruption-related offenses may grow dramatically.

Deputy Head of the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption Artem Sytnyk said this at a briefing in Ivano-Frankivsk, answering questions about the dynamics of this register, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

"Declarations were suspended, and many people forgot to submit declarations when they were fired, which is also an offense related to corruption. Now we have more than 40 thousand reports of late filing of declarations. This may contribute to the fact that the number of people in the register of violators may increase rapidly," said Sytnyk.

According to him, most of the declarations were not filed by those who were dismissed from their civil service jobs during the period when the declaration was suspended.

"We have more than 80% of reports of late submission of declarations concerning persons who have already been dismissed," said Artem Sytnyk.

He noted that when a person has not been in public service for about a year, he or she simply forgets about the declaration. However, this does not relieve them of responsibility. In addition, the legislation regulating the removal of persons from this register after a certain period of time has not yet been signed by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy after its adoption by the Verkhovna Rada. Therefore, the persons in the register are still listed for the life term.

Currently, the register of persons who have committed corruption offenses contains more than 40,000 officials. This register is most often used to check public procurement.
