Poroshenko hopes anti-corruption prosecutor to be appointed soon
President Poroshenko expects setting up the anti-corruption prosecutor's office in the near future.
As reported by Censor.NET citing Ukrainska Pravda, he announced it during an oath taking ceremony of the first 25 detectives of the Anti-Corruption Bureau.Poroshenko noted that he expects the Parliament to assign seven persons to the commission for election of the Chief Anti-Corruption Prosecutor.
He also hopes that in the near future a corresponding competition will be launched, and establishment of the anti-corruption prosecutor's office will start at last.
"Within a few weeks, the anti-corruption prosecutor's office will be operating," Poroshenko said.
He stated that he expects the Parliament to adopt the law this week that would prohibit courts to release corrupt officials on bail.
According to Poroshenko, senior officials should be remanded in custody for the first 2-3 months of investigation with no alternative option. The president believes that this time is sufficient to conduct basic investigative activities.
"Ukraine's courts are a weak link that ruins our efforts in fighting corruption," Poroshenko also stated.
