Borrell: Ukraine’s fate will determine fate of European Union
The future of the European Union will depend on the outcome of the war waged by Russia against Ukraine.
This was stated by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.
"The war against Ukraine directly affects our values and principles. The fate of Ukrainians will determine the fate of the European Union. This is what the (member) states discussed today, and the overwhelming majority of votes were in favor of this. The fate of Ukraine will determine the fate of the European Union. If Putin succeeds in Ukraine, we will all pay a very high price, far more expensive than any military support we could provide today," Borrell said.
The EU High Representative reminded that today is not only the 1000th day of Putin's full-scale war, but also 4000 days since the invasion of Crimea.
"Since then, perhaps we have not used the time to prepare our defense capabilities. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius rightly said that today. From 2014 until now, Europeans have gone through a quiet process of disarmament, without quickly regaining the military capabilities they lost after the Euro crisis.
But today we must restore these capabilities by coming together, making bold decisions, committing ourselves to supporting Ukraine by all means possible, and by doing so, sending a powerful message to Putin that Europe will not be divided and will not abandon its support for Ukraine," Borrell said.
