Britain is now "directly involved" in war in Ukraine, - Russian Ambassador Kelin

Посол РФ у Великій Британії Андрій Келін

Russian Ambassador to the UK Andrei Kelin said that London is now "directly involved" in the Russian war against Ukraine after British Storm Shadow missiles were used to strike targets in Russia.

He said this on Sky News, Censor.NET reports.

Answering the host's question about whether Kelin accuses Britain of participating in the war in Ukraine, the Russian ambassador said: "Absolutely."

This happened after this week, according to media reports, Western allies permitted for Ukraine to use long-range missiles to strike deep into Russia.

"Britain and the United Kingdom are now directly involved in this war, because these strikes cannot take place without NATO personnel, British personnel as well," the Russian ambassador said.

Asked what the difference was between Russia using Chinese, Iranian and North Korean equipment, technology and manpower - and whether they were also directly involved - Kelin instead accused Kyiv of "engaging foreign mercenaries."

"There are many mercenaries from different countries who are now fighting on the side of Ukraine. We have just seen a Polish unit in the Kursk area, which has a special uniform worn by Polish soldiers," the Russian ambassador added.

As reported, Bloomberg wrote that the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the first time attacked military targets in Russia with British Storm Shadow missiles.

Authorization for long-range strikes on the territory of the Russian Federation

As a reminder, current US President Joe Biden has authorised Ukraine to fire long-range ATACMS missiles at Russian territory.

CNN noted that Biden's permission to fire long-range missiles at Russia would complicate Trump's plans for a truce.

Axios writes that Biden's lifting of restrictions on long-range strikes applies only to the Kursk region of Russia.

The day before, Le Figaro reported that France and Britain, following the United States, had authorized the use of SCALP/Storm Shadow missiles against Russia.

However, the text of the publication was later changed.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that Ukraine's use of long-range ATACMS missiles to attack Russian territory would mean "direct participation of the United States and its satellites in hostilities against Russia."
