Parliamentary immunity leads to neglecting laws and should be abolished, - Speaker Hroisman

Representatives of various political forces are keen on abusing the promise of cancelling parliamentary immunity prior to elections, but afterwards the issue is again placed on a shelf.

Verkhovna Rada Speaker Volodymyr Hroisman announced today at a briefing, Censor.NET reports citing 112 Ukraine TV channel.

Meanwhile, he is sure that parliamentary immunity should be abolished.

"It [inviolability - ed.] may be a candy before elections, but then it becomes a chewing gum, for eternity. But to be more frank, it should be cancelled for sure. Not because it is popular, but because it leads to neglecting any law... Parliamentary immunity must be abolished when it comes to criminal offenses. Speaking of all the rest, there should be a 100 percent protection in terms of political position, political speeches, ideology, or anything else - these things should be separated," Hroisman said.
