Trade embargo on Russian products comes into effect in Ukraine today

The Cabinet of Ministers introduced trade embargo on a number of products made in the Russian Federation, which becomes effective on Jan. 10.

According to the government decree No 1147, the embargo will be effective until Aug. 5, 2016, or until Russia's food embargo against Ukraine is lifted, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

The list of banned products includes meat, fish, dairy, cheese spread, coffee, tea, food mixes, confectionery and bakery products, baby foods, pasta, sauces; flavorings and seasonings, beer, alcohol, vodka, dog food, cigarettes with filter, herbicides, substances preventing germination of germs and plant-growth regulators, rodenticides, artificial sausage shells, equipment for railways or tramways, diesel-electric locomotives, etc.

Russia's food embargo against Ukraine came into effect on Jan. 1, 2016. This is stipulated by the Russian government's decree of Dec. 21, 2015 on retaliation economic measures against Ukraine in connection with its accession to the anti-Russian sanctions. The embargo is introduced until Aug. 5, 2016.

According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, the losses due to the fall in exports to Russia total $450 mln to $600 mln.
