5.5 million hryvnia bail posted for former Mykolaiv administration deputy head

The bail in the amount of 5.5 million hryvnia (about $220,000) has been posted for former Mykolaiv Regional State Administration First Deputy Head Mykola Romanchuk, who was charged of receiving $90,000 in bribe.

The bailment has been confirmed by the Military Prosecutor's Office of the Southern region of Ukraine, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.

Earlier, investigators of the Military Prosecutor's Office of the Southern region together with SBU officers detained First Deputy Head of Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, Hero of Ukraine Mykola Romanchuk and three other officials as they were receiving $90,000 in bribe June 3.

The criminal proceedings were initiated against them under the Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (bribe taking by an official).

The Prymorskyi district court of Odesa imposed two-month pretrial confinement with a right to post a bail in the amount of 5.5 million hryvnia against Romanchuk June 8. Romanchuk's lawyers challenged that decision attempting to reduce the amount of bail but the Appeals Court upheld the ruling.
