Kremlin set to ignore West's rejection of elections in occupied Crimea, - Peskov
This was stated by Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax.
"In this case, the decision [not to recognize elections in Crimea - ed.] will not play any role and Moscow will ignore it because Crimea is part of Russia. We won't be able to accept this decision or take it into account," Peskov said.
Earlier this day, the Verkhovna Rada adopted an appeal to the parliaments of foreign states, parliamentary assemblies and international organizations not to recognize the upcoming elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation in Crimea and Sevastopol. In addition, MPs addressed the international community with a request to come up with an official statement about the illegitimacy of the results of elections to the State Duma should they take place in the territory of Crimea.
As previously reported, elections to Russia's State Duma are to be held on Sept. 18. Russian authorities also intend to hold the elections in the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
