Rada calls on democratic world to recognize Holodomor as genocide against Ukrainian people

Ukraine's parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, has adopted the bill No.355 on addressing the democratic states of the world regarding recognition of Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine a genocide against its people.

As reported by Censor.NET, the bill was supported by 233 members of parliament.

The Opposition Bloc (former Party of Regions related to Viktor Yanukovych) gave zero votes for the bill. MPs of this faction were either absent from the session hall or didn't vote.

The text of the address reads that Ukraine went through a terrible tragedy in 1932-1933. Holodomor claimed lives of millions of people. This act of the communist totalitarian regime is a crime against humanity under the U.N. Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide of Dec. 9, 1948.

The Rada reminds that it adopted a bill on Nov. 28, 2006 recognizing Holodomor as a genocide against the Ukrainian people and banned communist totalitarian regime's symbol and propaganda by its bill of April 9, 2015.

The document reads that the Ukrainian parliament is grateful to those who "keep the memory of the tragedy of the Ukrainian people and help us restore the truth about Holodomor."
