Ukraine willing to make resolute action to release hostages held in Russia and occupied territories, - Poroshenko

Ukraine is determined to make necessary steps to achieve prompt release of the hostages held in the Russian Federation and temporarily occupied territories.

This was stated by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko at a press conference in Tallinn on Monday, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.

"We are determined regarding the early release of Ukrainian, Estonian and other hostages held in the Russian Federation and the occupied territories," Poroshenko said delivering speech during his official visit to Estonia.

The president expressed regret about the grave situation with the Russian-held hostages.

"Unfortunately, the only way is consolidated actions of the international community, as it was with Afanasiev, Soloshenko and others. Only joint actions bear fruit. We are ready for resolute and coordinated actions regarding both the Ukrainian citizens, including Sushchenko, Sentsov and others, and other nationals," he said.

He also recalled that Ukraine unilaterally freed 15 militants' accomplices a few weeks ago and, consequently, was expecting the Russian Federation to make reciprocal move.

"Unfortunately, the Russian side made no accommodating steps. However, we emphasize that we are determined to continue this struggle," the head of state summed up.

"We are going to keep coordinating efforts for the release of Ukrainian and Estonian hostages held in the Russian Federation," Poroshenko's press secretary Sviatoslav Tseholko quoted the president as saying.
