Nasirov charged with 2B hryvnia worth of damage to state budget, - SAP

The Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) suspects Head of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine Roman Nasirov of inflicting a 2 billion hryvnia ($73.329 million) loss on Ukraine's budget.

This was announced by SAP official Roman Syvkiv, Censor.NET reports citing TSN.

According to Syvkiv, Nasirov took unreasonable decisions on restructuring rental fees for the extraction of minerals, which helped Ukraine's fugitive MP Oleksandr Onyshchenko implement corruption schemes he is being charged with.

The SAP official also reported that the security staff of Feofania hospital tried to hinder access of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) detectives as they arrived to serve an indictment against Nasirov, who had earlier been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

MP Andrii Zhurzhii, who arrived at the scene, said the indictment was finally served and expressed doubt that the SFS chief's condition was as grave as doctors claimed it to be

"I think he will stay in hospital, taking into account the position of doctors who say he is in grave condition. Although I can say that I went upstairs and could hear doctors talking with him. As far as I know, when investigators entered the ward, he closed his eyes and pretended to be unconscious," Zhurzhii said.

Earlier, NABU and SAP agents arrived at Feofania hospital to serve an indictment for criminal offence against Ukraine's chief taxman Roman Nasirov. The doctors tried to bar the investigators from entering the ward saying Nasirov had allegedly suffered a heart attack.

On March 16, the NABU raided the office of Verkhovna Rada MP Oleksandr Onyshchenko as part of a pre-trial investigation into abuse of office during the sale of natural gas extracted jointly with Ukrhazvydobuvannia SE.

Later, the NABU requested the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) to strip Onyshchenko of immunity. Moreover, the NABU and the PGO claim Onyshchenko is involved in the embezzlement of 1.6 billion hryvnia ($64.02 million).

On June 16, Prosecutor General Yurii Lutsenko issued a motion requesting Verkhovna Rada's consent for criminal prosecution, arrest, and pre-trial detention of Onyshchenko. On July 5, the parliament approved the detention and arrest of the lawmaker.

It turned out Onyshchenko was in the U.K. at that moment and had already applied for political asylum.

On Dec. 1, 2016, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced it suspected fugitive MP Onyshchenko of high treason. As noted, the MP acquired Russian citizenship in exchange for cooperation with Russian authorities to destabilize the situation in Ukraine. On the same day, Onyshchenko said he had provided compromising materials against President Poroshenko to the American intelligence authorities.
