Censor.NET chief editor included in group of forensic experts to investigate Maidan crackdown case

The group is composed of various experts, former and current law enforcement officers, lawyers.

Censor.NET chief editor Yurii Butusov said on Facebook.

"I have been included in the group of forensic experts set up as part of the probe by the Special Investigations Department of the Prosecutor General's Office into the crackdown on Maidan protesters and the conduct of anti-terrorist operation on Independence Square (Maidan Nezalezhnosti) on Feb. 18-20, 2014," he wrote.

"The examination is intended to analyze the decisions and actions of the operation leaders from among representatives of the Security Service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Guard for their compliance with the legislation and regulatory framework on the conduct of anti-terrorist operations, as well as to restore the sequence of those events," the journalist said.

"The examination will last, I hope, up to two months. This is a necessary tool to be used in court. We already have a lot of information to analyze, and can draw conclusions based on precisely established facts and evidence. So I think no delay will occur regarding the presentation of charges and the start of a trial," Butusov stressed.

Earlier, Jus Talionis event reconstruction laboratory reconstructed and substantially updated previous version of Zhovtnevyi Commanding Hill visual with the support of Censor.NET.

The initial version of Zhovtnevyi Commanding Hill visual can be found here.

The experts reconstructed footage of the events that took place on Kyiv's Maidan Nezalezhnosti between 6 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Feb. 20, 2014 second-by-second and frame-by-frame. The moment of murder of Melnychuk (Volodymyr Melnychuk, 39, shot dead by a sniper on Instytutska Street Feb. 20, 2014 - Ed.) who was killed at 5 p.m., was also added to the movie.

This project provides opportunity to track each person captured on camera at least once and see what was going on in every part of Maidan Nezalezhnosti and Instytutska Street at the same time. But the most important thing is that this project gives everyone a possibility to draw own conclusions about the events and who actually was pulling the trigger.

Censor.NET Chief Editor Yurii Butusov insists that Zhovtnevyi Commanding Hill is by no means a documentary intended for public viewing. According to him, it will first of all be crucial evidence during trial into attacks committed against the Maidan activists on Feb. 20, 2014.
