Russia-based Raiffeisen Bank outlets to serve breakaway "DPR"/"LPR" passport holders, - Reuters
The move followed consultations with Russia's central bank but might require the consent of the parent bank.
Head of the Russian arm of Austria's Raiffeisen Bank International Sergei Monin said Thursday that the financial institution was preparing to offer services to people holding passports issued by two self-proclaimed republics known as the "Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics," Censor.NET reports citing Reuters.Monin told reporters the move followed consultations with Russia's central bank but might require the consent of the parent bank.
"We posed some questions to our regulator, but in principle we are preparing to work" with clients in the self-styled Donetsk People's Republic and Luhansk People's Republic, Monin said.
"We are in the process of verifying the regulatory situation. We act in accordance with international standards on customer identification and in the framework of the applicable local regulations and laws," a spokeswoman for Raiffeisen Bank International said.
As reported, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko enacted sanctions against five Russia-owned banks operating in Ukraine on March 16. Even earlier, Russia's Foreign Ministry said the decree on Moscow's recognition of the "IDs" issued by the "DPR"/"LPR" terrorist organizations was consistent with the international laws.
