FM Klimkin on Kremlin's peacekeepers statements: It's an element of political schizophrenia

The Kremlin scenario for introduction of peacekeepers in the Donbas is a manipulation with elements of "political schizophrenia."

Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin told Ukrinform, Censor.NET reports.

"It's an expected manipulation the point of which is that Russia is aiming at recognition of the terrorists it supports on the occupied area of the Donbas. It's a vain attempt to put this peace process into some virtual reality. And shake up all we've achieved over this time with the help of our partners," Klimkin said.

The second manipulation is to introduce the peacekeepers along the demarcation line only.

"It's a real path to freezing the situation as it is. So here we have Russia's attempt to legalize its colony on the occupied area of the Donbas," the minister said.

Klimkin believes the Kremlin initiatives are senseless.

"Moreover, I see an element of a political schizophrenia in it. Moscow declares it's trying to help OSCE and SMM mission. But how? By placing peacekeepers along the demarcation line only! It will only make the SMM work more difficult, for you can't have two missions with different territorial mandate. It's so crazy, both funny and sad," Klimkin added.

The minister says that Ukraine and the U.N. member countries understand these manipulation attempts extremely well.

On Sept. 5, Russian President Putin said deployment of U.N. peacekeepers in the Donbas was quite appropriate for solving of the conflict in the region, but only along the line of contact and with the aim of protecting the OSCE mission.

Ukraine's representative in Humanitarian subgroup of the Tripartite contact group in Minsk talks, deputy speaker of Ukrainian parliament Iryna Herashchenko commented on Putin's statement and said the Kremlin scenarios will fail; peacekeepers must be introduced across all Russia-occupied territories.
